Where do Swiss people, considered the most regular travellers in Europe (Visa Europe data – Cross Border Spending) go on holiday?
The Swiss Touring Club’s new Barometer, developed by the GfS Research Institute of Berna, has the answer.
The first important data which comes out from the research, is that Swiss people have a constant interest in their country.
In fact, for them, the most interesting holiday destinations are three tourism regions of the Confederation. The most attractive is Ticino, Canton Grigioni is at the third place, followed by Vallese. Only Italy manages to compete for popularity with the three most important tourism destinations in Switzerland, in fact it gets the second place.
The research also highlights the importance of cultural closiness for Swiss people. At the second place, there are Germany, Austria France, Spain and Portugal. The only non-European tourism destinations are Australia and New Zealand. 32% of Swiss people chooses his own country or Italy, 28% chooses the neighbouring European countries (Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Portugal), 24% chooses the safest non-European countries (USA, Thailand, South Africa) and 16% chooses the less safe countries (Egipt, UAE, Tunisia).
