Swiss Tourism Awards 2007
Also this year 30 world destinations are guests in Lugano. Also this year, the Swiss Tourism Awards, the glamorous award of the Swiss Tourism, are the top event of the Tourist Week of Lugano: top and exotic destinations will be present from 1st to 4th November 2007 at Centro Esposizioni of Lugano, in order to submit their beauties and their cultural heritage to the interested public of Switzerland and North Italy.
This year there are 12 categories according to which the towns and resorts have been selected and this guarantees an even more particular and special touristic proposal. The edition of this year is proud to have destinations from all over the world: cities from South America, from the Caribbeans, from the Classical Europe and from the mysterious East Europe. Moreover, representatives from Italy, Greece and Portugal will bring to Lugano their beautie and their cultural heritage in order to present themselves at best in this important show.
According to this year trend, the Swiss Awards want to direct their attention to East Europe presenting emergin destinations, rich in untouched natural treasures and beauties, still to be discovered. Serbia will be represented by the city of Novi Sad, vital and welcoming town, situated along the Danube shores; Montenegro will be represented by the city of Podgorica, built on the shores of six rivers, which join the magic of the ancient Illiric and Roman town of Birziminium to the vitality of a modern town. Another country rich of surprises is Bulgaria: the cities of Koprivshtitsa and Plovdiv will be prized as Outdoor Museums for the peculiarities of their city architecture. Kosice, a Slovakia jewel, is another destination to be discovered: ancient town, rich in historical monuments, is in the middle of the famous "Slovakian Paradise", a region rich in natural parks and caves unique in their kinds. Sibiu, in the heart of Rumania, will bring the joy of its narrow streets full of medieval atmosphere and where it is pleasant to lose the way in a journey out of time. And then Sarajevo, melting pot of cultures, Tirana, Ohrid in Macedonia, Batumi in Georgia and the mysterious Azerbaijan which will bring to Lugano its folklore and its particular traditional cooking. A touch of classical Europe will be brought to Lugano by Utrecht, architectural jewel of Holland, many Greek beauties will re-create the myth of Greece: Nafplion, ancient Greek jem, mixture of myth and modernity, Hydra, the island of the artist, Zante, the reign of turtles, Parga, jewel of Epirus and Sifnos, the island of poets.
Great novelty is the presence of many towns from the always dreamt South America: Bogota' and Santiago de Cali from Colombia, Foz do Iguazu and Joinville from Brazil, Huaraz from Peru, Puerto Natales from Chile..... And then the Caribbeans with Antigua and Barbuda. Among the luxurious resorts, new category of this year, we can find the Grand Hotel Terme Salus and its Wellness Planet, an elegant spa resort dated back to the Etruscan period and which together with the numerous and benefic qualities of the sulphureous waters and natural muds, it suggests wonderful tourist itineraries around the Viterbo province; we can also find the Residenza Colle Aperto, a Maison de Charme in the wonderful hills of Monferrato, where refinement, wellness and relax are the main rules.
